The Planning Stages

We've spent many, many hours on the computer searching everything from government sites to personal blogs of amateur travelers. There's a lot of things to consider when embarking on a multi-month, multi-country trip like this. Visa requirements, local diseases, local holidays, wet season, dry season...it goes on and on. But really, that stuff is secondary to the spirit of the adventure. Any diseases we contract and any hardships we may go through are just part of the journey. We can plan all we want, but everything, everything, is gonna change once we actually land at Singapore Changi International Airport. Which is exactly why we're not making any plans.

What the heck are we up to now?

vagabonding-n. a deliberate way of living that makes the freedom to travel possible.
So you may be wondering just what it is we're doing...well so am I! Thats kind of the point, but I'll clue everyone in on the idea Todd and I have come up with and are now moving towards.
Last summer, I was in between courses out in Oregon when i came across a book called Vagabonding: An Uncommon Guide to the Art of Long Term World Travel. Basically this book convinced me that I was ready to plan a big time extended travel. I called Todd who was in Vancouver still and gave him the run down and asked him if he was interested in the journey of a lifetime, he said yes. So we began contemplating where we should go and what we should do, we considered several areas of focus and determined that Southeast Asia had the best combination of culture and access and the cheapest flights! Next came trying to figure out what we wanted to do once we got there, after tossing around lots of different and exciting ideas, we decided that true vagabonding was what we were going for. Our plan now is to use Singapore as the jump off point and thats about all we have planned. We want to be able to take opportunities as they present themselves and not be limited to an itinerary or pre-booked flights, we have a few ideas to guide us if things get stagnant, but in general we hope to figure out where to go next by word of mouth or simply choosing a place with an interesting sounding name!
So we've got our plane tickets, heading out on August 4th, lots of planning under our belts, ready to get some!
Stay Tuned!
